The aim of this graphic was to show how tourism will effect Cape Town and its surrounding areas over the holiday season.

My rough sketch

I was given a bunch of figures and stats to work with – but no images.

So to start off, I did a rough sketch to get an idea of how everything could slot together into the required space.

Then with a lot of help form the Media24 archives and Google, i started to find pictures to use for the various sections.

For the mountain at the top of the graphic I didn’t want to use a photograph, so used my Wacom tablet and did a pencil and watercolour effect for the main image of the mountain.

After many hour of fiddling and faffing, here’s the final product. I was pretty happy with the end result and the way they used it on the page.

It’s taken a long time for me to start blogging, but I’ve had a hectic schedule packing up house and moving from East London to Johannesburg last month.
The reason for this is that I’ve joined Media24 and I will be working for their graphics unit that serves all their newspapers – both daily and weekly.
